COMPLETE AND PARTIAL DENTURES

COMPLETE DENTURES

If you are missing most or all of your teeth, complete dentures can replace both top and bottom teeth. You might have lost teeth as a result from periodontal disease, tooth decay, or a dental emergency. Whatever the cause, a set of dentures may enhance your life so you can smile without feeling self-conscious, and eat and talk without difficulty.

PARTIAL DENTURES

If you lost several teeth but do not require full dentures, you may be a good candidate for a partial denture. Partial dentures consist of replacement teeth attached to a pink or gum-colored plastic base connected by metal framework. Removable partial dentures adhere to your natural teeth with invisible precision attachments. Dental crowns on your natural teeth may improve the fit of a removable partial denture and they are usually required with attachments.

DENTURES AND DENTAL HYGIENE

Whether or not you have natural teeth remaining, oral hygiene will still play an important role in your daily routine. Plaque can form on your dentures, and tiny particles of food may find their way between your dentures and gums. You will need to remove your full or partial dentures after each meal and use a soft toothbrush to brush your dentures and your gums. When your dentures are not in your mouth, they should be kept in water or denture cleaner to keep them moist.
